FAQs

What’s happening?
First Community Credit Union has entered into an agreement with Unity Bank to acquire the Red Lake Falls and Mentor branch locations. We’re proud to continue serve these communities and excited to build on the strong relationships already in place.

Why is this happening?
This transition ensures these communities continue to have access to local financial services. As a credit union, we’re committed to reinvesting locally, supporting rural communities, and building long-term relationships.

Will I still be able to access my money?
Yes, absolutely. You will continue to have full access to your accounts throughout the transition. Our priority is making sure everything continues smoothly.

What happens to my relationship with the bank?
We understand how important relationships are. Our goal is to build on the trust you already have by providing a smooth transition and continuing the personal service you expect.

What if I prefer to stay with Unity Bank?
As part of this transition, accounts associated with Unity Bank's Red Lake Falls and Mentor branches will move to FCCU. We understand you may have questions as we move through this transition and our team is here to provide information, answer questions, and help make the process as smooth as possible.

Will I still see the same employees?
We know the people you work with everyday matter. Those same familiar faces are expected to remain, helping provide continuity and making this transition as smooth as possible.

What should I do right now?
There’s nothing you need to do right now. We’ll keep you informed every step of the way with clear communication, simple timelines, and guidance to make this as easy as possible.

Will my accounts still be safe?
Yes. Your deposits remain safe and federally insured. Credit union accounts are insured by the NCUA, which provides the same level of protection as FDIC insurance, so you can feel confident your money is secure.

Do I need to do anything to be insured?
No action is required. Your accounts will continue to be automatically insured under NCUA coverage.

What is the difference between a bank and a credit union?
Credit unions offer the same core services as banks, but as a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative. Our focus is on returning value to members through competitive rates, lower fees, and reinvestment in the communities we serve.

What does it mean to be a “member” of a credit union?
Being a member simply reflects ownership in the credit union. We often say our members are like family and we truly mean that. It doesn’t change how you do your day-to-day financials, but it does mean everything we do is centered around taking care of you.

Will my account number or routing number change?
Yes, your routing and account numbers will change, but not immediately. The changes will occur later as we align products and services in preparation for the transition. We'll communicate these updates well in advance, so please monitor your mail and email for important information as the transition approaches.

Will services or products be different?
You can expect the same core services you rely on today. There may be some differences in how services are structured or named. Over time, you may also have access to additional products, services and member benefits.

What is most important to know?
Your accounts are safe, your access continues uninterrupted, and we are committed to making this a smooth transition. Most importantly, we’re here to support you and your community for the long term.

What can you expect during the account conversion process?
While final details will be shared closer to conversion, here’s a general overview of what you can expect:

  • Deposit Accounts (Checking, Savings, CDs):
Your accounts will be converted to comparable products at the credit union. During this transition, account numbers, routing numbers, or product names will change. If updates are needed, such as new debit cards, checks, or direct deposit instructions, we’ll provide clear guidance well in advance.
  • Loans (Mortgage, Auto, Personal, Business):
Your loan terms, such as interest rate, balance, and payment schedule, will remain the same. However, you may see changes to where or how you make payments, including new payment addresses, online banking access, or loan servicing systems.
  • Automatic Payments and Transfers:
We’ll provide instructions on updating any recurring payments or external transfers, if changes are required. Many items may transfer automatically, but it’s important to review your settings after conversion.
  • Ongoing Access and Support:
You will continue to have access to your funds and accounts throughout the process, and our team will be available to support you every step of the way.

Who do I contact if I have questions during the transition?
You can continue working with your current Unity Bank team during the early stages of this transition. As we move closer to the account conversions, we’ll introduce additional resources to assist in the process, ensuring a smooth transition.

Decades later, our name changed to First Community Credit Union. Today, FCCU's membership is open to a majority of North Dakota and into western Minnesota and with assets of over $1.5 billion, FCCU is one of the region's largest credit unions.
