FCCU Raises $10,000 for Fargo Sanford Micro-Preemie Unit

Our first charity cause, as voted on by staff and members, was Children and Youth.
Together we raised $10,000 for the regions only Micro-Preemie Unit, located at Sanford Children's Hospital in Fargo. This specialized unit within the current NICU is designed for the care of micro-preemies, babies born before 26 weeks and weighing less than 20 ounces. In partnership with the Dakota Credit Union Association and Foundation, North Dakota Credit Unions have pledged $1 million dollars towards the ‘Credit Unions for Kids Micro-Preemie Unit.’ Learn more about the NICU here.
FCCU’s charity efforts were spread out across the first half of the year, with many fundraisers to support this worthy cause.
At the beginning of the year, FCCU staff participated in the Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack in Fargo helping to pack nutritious meals for children worldwide. Branches also held a pajama & blanket drive to support area abused and foster children. From February through March, with the help of our communities, FCCU staff collected more than 205 blankets and 275 pajamas, socks, flashlights and more for Project Ignite which will be donated for ‘Bags of Hope.’ This is the seventh year that FCCU has supported this cause. In those seven years, FCCU donations total more than 1,000 blankets, 2,200 pajamas and raised an impressive $31,500! For more information visit http://www.ignitelight.org/.
In spring, staff also helped with the Great Plains Food Bank Packathons in Bismarck and Fargo, packing food for children and families facing food insecurity in our local area.
FCCU’s 2nd Annual Day of Service kept with the theme and staff participated in hands-on activities to help children and youth in our communities. Other fundraising efforts throughout the first half of the year included an internal staff silent auction, jeans Friday, internal branch fundraisers and more.
