At First Community Credit Union, we believe "Life is Better with Community." That belief is more than a tagline; it’s a promise that guides how we serve our members, support our neighbors and show up for the communities we call home.

That commitment was on full display during FCCU’s Fourth Annual Day of Service, when employees across our footprint stepped away from their desks and into their communities to volunteer, lend a helping hand, and make a meaningful difference.

Created as an opportunity for employees to come together and live out FCCU’s core value of Commitment to Community, the annual Day of Service has become a cherished tradition. This year, team members contributed more than 240 volunteer hours supporting schools, nonprofit organizations, community spaces, and local initiatives throughout North Dakota and Minnesota.

“Our Day of Service is a powerful reminder of what can happen when people come together with a shared purpose,” said Susan Long Swen, Senior Event & Community Engagement Specialist. She continues, “We are proud to invest our time and energy into the communities that support us every day.”

Throughout the day, FCCU employees participated in a wide variety of projects designed to meet local needs and strengthen community connections.

Several teams focused their efforts on supporting students, educators, and schools, including:

• Assisting with student learning stations at Eagles Elementary School in Fargo
• Donating school supplies to Horizon Middle School in Moorhead
• Helping with event setup and volunteering at Chalkfest in Kindred
• Partnering with 7 Brew Coffee to deliver drinks to teachers and faculty in Grand Forks
• Planting flowers alongside kindergarten students at Neil Dardis Elementary School in Lakota

Environmental stewardship and community beautification efforts also played a major role in this year’s Day of Service. Employees worked on cleanup and improvement projects in Jamestown, Fargo, Hankinson, Milnor, Napoleon, Steele, St. John, Valley City, and Wishek. Teams also supported community landmarks and gathering spaces, including Frontier Village in Jamestown and the Bismarck Horse Club.

Additional volunteer projects included delivering Meals on Wheels to elderly individuals in Oakes and preparing and serving a meal for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Fargo.

While each project was unique, they all shared a common purpose: strengthening the communities where FCCU members and employees live, work, and raise their families.

The success of the Fourth Annual Day of Service reflects the passion and generosity of FCCU employees who consistently look for ways to make a positive impact beyond the workplace. Their willingness to give their time and talents demonstrates what community means in action.
